The Internet Cafe Orchestra was a special musical project created by the multi-instrumentalist and former producer of the Sex Pistols, Dave Goodman, and his partner, the singer, writer and musician Kathy Manuell, previously with the vocal group Design.
This album Soundtrack for Cyberspace was produced by Dave Goodman between February 2002 and February 2003 at his Mandala Studios in South London and then in Malta, where he and Kathy went to live halfway through the recording.
The music on this album is a unique fusion of jazz, blues, rock, reggae, electronic and world music, featuring Dave and Kathy playing every instrument from guitar, keyboards, flutes, sax and sitar to Appalachian dulcimer, windchimes, bongos and singing bowl. Brilliantly produced and performed, each track has its own time and space, creating a multi-layered musical soundscape influenced by the couple’s philosophy that ‘Music Can Save the World’, taking us from the mystical Indian sounds of ‘Raga Swingtime’ to the psychedelic jazz of ‘Jazzadelica’ and the driving reggae beat of ‘Become the Light’.
